 Save on Organic Products

Finding deals on organic products and food is become easier. However, many of the small or local farms that produce organic food do not have the marketing budgets to participate in coupon distribution programs. Here are some tips for finding savings on organic products. 1. Subscribe and Save. Many online stores are now offering organic products and include a subscription program. These programs can save you money each time you buy a product. For example, Amazon has a program called Subscribe and Save and you can save 15% each time an order is placed. You can have products delivered each month, or up to every 6 months. Use this for food items, beauty products, household products, etc. This is especially nice if you have heavy things, like cat litter, that you buy in large quantities. 2. Print coupons right before you shop. This way all coupons will be within the expiration date and you won’t have to keep track of printed coupons. Let the online systems keep track of them; just print what is on your list right before you go. 3. Check theNutiva-Nevermissadeal corporate website to see if they offer coupons online.  For example, Nutiva has deals every Tuesday on their products. You can sign up for programs to receive emails about special offers and deals. Let the companies do the work for you. 4. Sign up for coupon apps. Many stores now offer apps you can download for you smart phone. The stores will alert you when they have new coupons. Each week, Vons sends me notification that they have released their new coupons. I can search their organic foods and see if there is anything I need. 5. Many organic food stores print a free magazine that includes coupons and deals. For example, you can usually find this type of magazine near the cash registers at Sprouts and Whole Food Market. 6. Set up a free e-Mail account for your coupon emails, so they don’t get lost amongst your standard emails. Use this account for all your coupon and deal emails. Check it before you go shopping or every few days so that you can see if there is a deal you can use. 7. Take pictures of the products you find you like and store them on your phone. I often find a certain vitamin or supplement I like then can’t remember exactly what brand it was when I am shopping. Having pictures on my phone that I can see helps me know when I can take advantage of deals I find in the stores. Let your electronics help make it easier to save. Use your smart phone and computer to help you save money and time. Also let the stores find your coupons for you!  There is no need for you to do all the work anymore.   $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Grow Organic Food from Kitchen Scraps

There are so many things that you can regrow from the parts of your vegetables that you usually throw away! Organic food is much cheaper if you only have to purchase the vegetables once and then regrow them! The following are the list of things that I have grown in my garden this year from “kitchen scraps”: 2013-02-02 15.48.26

  • Celery
  • Green onion
  • Cabbage
  • Lemon grass
  • Lettuce
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Potatos

Take the end of the vegetable and put it in a small container with water. The vegetable will grow sprouts and roots as you can see in the picture. Transplant them into soil and let them plants keep growing. I have a bunch of green onion, cabbage, and lemon grass this year and it is all from things I would have thrown away in the past! My celery has gone to seed but that means I will have free celery as soon as the seeds come up. I just let it seed the garden. What is better than almost free food!

5 Designer Make-up at Drug Store Prices!

Love the latest looks but hate the cost of department store prices? You’re in luck!

  1. Highlighter – Use Elf Shimmering Facial Whip instead of Benefit High Beam. Add it to the inner corners of your eyes, above and below the eyebrow, on the top of the cheekbones, down the nose, to the center of your upper lip and to your chin. Highlights in all the right spots! ~$1
  2. Eyeshadow – Elf has a neutral pallette that closely resembles Urban Decay Naked pallette. ~$6
  3. Lipstick – Great neutral shades by Wet n Wild MegaLast Matte Lip Color. Compare to Mac, Nars and other high-end brands. ~$1.99
  4. Bronzer – Wet n Wild Bronzing Powder is wonderful. It doesn’t streak and looks very natural when applied with a big fluffy brush.  ~$1.25
  5. Eyeliner – My favorite is L’Oreal Liquid Eyeliner in black. It has a great applicator that makes it easy to apply. Mary Kay also has a great applicator for their liquid eyeliner. Both of these options are under $10

Keep the money in your pocket and still look great. No one will know you didn’t spend a bundle to look this good!

Is it even worth $1?

Stores that advertize everything for a dollar are popping up everywhere. Each seems to have slightly different items but there are some items you find at all of them. What items are worth the dollar and which are better deals elsewhere? Below are the Queens’ findings:worthadollar

It’s a Deal!

  1. Personal Care items - Deodorants and other nonperishables such as  toothbrushes or body powder can be a great deal. Look for name brand items and buy  brands you know and trust.
  2. DIY Wedding Items – DIYing your wedding? Hit the dollar stores frequently. Pick up glassware, plates, cake plates, etc. I found martini glasses for a party I was throwing and so I was able to use real glasses instead of plastic. And now I can sell them on eBay.
  3. Wrapping Paper, Bags, Ribbon and Bows - I found great deals on tissue paper, wrapping paper, gift bags, and ribbon for bridal showers, baby showers, and weddings.  You can get pretty wrappings for birthdays, anniversaries or holidays for $1.
  4. Invitations, Greeting Cards, and Thank You Notes - Greeting cards often cost more than presents these days.  You can get greeting cards for $1 each or sometimes even 2/$1. You can also find invitations and thank you notes.
  5. Kitchen Utensils and Tools – Measuring cups, measuring spoons, pizza cutters, tongs, ice cream scoops, and more. Look for brand names. This is the perfect place to get inexpensive items for dorms or first appartments!
  6. Chips and Crackers - I found some great deals on chips at my local dollar store. You can use them in kid’s lunches or just to munch.
  7. Cleaning Products - Most of these stores have a selection of brand name cleaning products for $1 each. You can’t beat this price. Or save a lot and look for baking soda, vinegar, and other DIY cleaning product items.
  8. Organization and Storage - We all need to store make-up, toys, craft supplies, hobby items, etc. You can get a variety of plastic storage containers for just a $1.
  9. Party Supplies - I found napkins, paper plates, balloons and more for just$1 each! The balloons can run upwards of $5 at most party or grocery stores.
  10. Goodie bag items – My 4 year old niece had a princess party with both boys and girls (the boys came as princes or superheroes). I found fantastic items such as head bands, hair clips, combs, kid-sized tools, and crowns for the goodie bags. I was able to get 10 hair clips or 5 combs for $1.

No Deal!

  1. Over the counter medicines -  Whether it’s pain medicine or vitamins, I do not recommend buying them at the dollar store. Many items are expired or, in the case of vitamins, don’t have the nutrients listed on the label according to a study done by Consumer Reports.
  2. Fresh or canned produce - Many of these items are packaged in containers that leak chemicals into the food. The fresh produce can have a lot of pesticides on them. Better to stick to your local grocery stores since many canned goods are under a dollar.
  3. Toys  and plastic games - I have talked to many a mom that has purchased these toys and they break every time. They just feel flimsy even when you are in the store.
  4. Office and School supplies – This one is more of a warning. I have found I can get many office and school supplies for less by purchasing them during back to school sales than I can at the dollar stores. Why even pay a buck when you can get them for less?

If you have deals that you get at the dollar stores let us know! We would love to expand this list and help everyone save money.
